In this series of workshops, you will discover the amazingly diverse world of color printing, learn how to work with color and make some colorful prints. The purpose of this course is to gain an understanding of the range of linocut's capabilities and to acquire the most important skills - or to deepen knowledge through new experiments and different approaches to hight press printing.
In the first lesson we will start practicing and make 1-2 postcards in din A6. Using a postcard as an example, you will learn the basic principles of working with tools and multi-color printing techniques.
The second and third lessons will be devoted to the production of more detailed work in the form of din A3 according to your sketch. Not only will you learn about different printing methods, but you will also have the space to experiment, develop your own techniques, and create a unique piece of art. With this printing process, you can create contemporary images as you wish - figurative, floral, abstract.
A linocut is a type of relief print. Relief printing is when a piece of paper is “stamped” with ink from the top surface of the plate. Linoleum is very soft and therefore the best material for making engravings. When you carve your lino you are cutting away the area that will be white and leaving the area that will be black (or colored if you are printing in color). Linocuts were originally made popular by Picasso, while before that they were simply regarded as a student’s medium to practice for woodcuts.
